The life of Uzbek poet and composer Hamza Hakimzade Niyazi (1889–1929), a prominent figure who facilitated socialist reform in the Uzbek republic and helped to elevate the Uzbek language to literary status. Niyazi is one of the most prominent forerunners of distinctive Uzbek literature and the founder of modern Uzbek musical forms In youth, he organized a free school for children of poor neighborhoods and himself wrote primers for children. He joined The Bolsheviks in 1920 and organized a theater troop for the Uzbek and Tajik Red Army soldiers.
